My fashion story

As a kid,it wasn't that bad. My mother dressed me in cute enough outfits-I had a sort of fro at the time,blue eyes-with my OshKoshBgosh overalls,I had a half decent fashion style-that is,until I started picking out my own clothes.

Looking back at old pictures from middle school, I just kind of cringe-but the worst style makes the best makeover,right? Once I got into high school, after the initial freshman attempt at trying to be impressive, I fell into a sad lazy habit of simply wearing t-shirts and jeans-it was really quite pathetic. My older sister Kelly always had a very girly style, always dressing up and wearing dresses, etc.

One day my mother remarked to me about how it would be nice if I dressed up once in a while too, and put real effort in it. I, being indignant and stubborn, was determined to prove her wrong-so I started dressing up ALL THE TIME. This made me different, and stand out certainly. People started to gain interest in what I was wearing regularly, and my confidence grew largely(I was extremely insecure and depressed at the time). After being obsessed with fashion blogs for the longest time, I just had a moment of "Hey,why the heck not", and went for it-made my blog.

I find inspiration everywhere-fellow bloggers, art pieces, movies, people on the street, nature-everything-I love finding ways to put different things together, and there's never a day when I look in my closet and think I have nothing to wear-I simply remix some of my pieces a different way I never have before. And that's been one of the best things for me- my blog is one of the things that really excites me-for a while,I was always bummed about not having something to really live my life fully for-some people had singing, some people-academics. I thought I was simply drifting through life without a real purpose.

And now,I've certainly found mine (: I find inspiration everywhere,and there's not much more satisfying than finding the perfect outfit and getting just great photos for a post, I love it (: And the comments I get, about how people truly enjoy it, and that they admire what I'm doing, is the best part (:

These are the thoughts that popped in our minds while interviewing Camille Sioco. This gal is undeniably charming and sweet.

Today's fashion lover is from Australia! We're loving her blog even before we started this website. Let us share her fashion story and see how awesome she is.

1. How did you come up with the name for your blog?

-I used to be fond of wearing frilly skirts. They elongate my legs and make me appear taller than I really am and I had plenty in my closet. A friend had nicknamed me "Frillyskirts" and it stuck.

2. What is your fondest memory that is fashion related?

-I'm not one to get star struck by celebrities but when I saw Margaret Zhang from Shine by Three at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and she knew of me, I was overwhelmed, squealed inside and felt like I had accomplished something with my blog. I know it may sound silly but for a small blog like mine and for a huge fashion blogging personality to have recognised me was huge.

3. How would you describe your personal style?

-I have a very feminine, dainty and chic look. I'm conservative with my style and how I approach fashion in general. In fashion, before I walk out the door, I ask myself 2 questions:

1. What would I think in 5 years time when I see a photo of this outfit?

2. What would my parents, child/children think when they see a photo of this outfit?

4. What were you doing before you got into blogging?

-Lazing around at home watching lots of TV series and movie marathons, doing nail art, listening to a lot of Backstreet Boys and K-Pop and being the subject for Ramon's photography practice. I had a very reserved and somewhat boring lifestyle and finally found a hobby that makes me happy.

5. How long have you been blogging?

-4 years, (wow, time flies by so quickly!) I have met so many wonderful people and have found such a lovely support group. I feel so blessed and I am so thankful for all the opportunities I've been offered.

6. What do you think are the perks of being a fashion blogger?

-The perks would definitely be discovering and being introduced to new brands and stores and meeting new people. I have met so many amazing people throughout the years and the support I have experienced is so humbling.

7. What's the best thing in being a fashion blogger?

-The best thing would be the people you meet. In the news, you see all these stories about how cut-throat and judgemental the fashion industry is hence why for the first couple of years of people calling my blog a "fashion blog" I would be defensive for the fear that I would have negative criticism thrown my way. I have met the kindest people and developed new friendships through the fashion blogging network. Everyone is so kind, friendly, welcoming and very honest.

8. Your worst experience in fashion?

-As a blogger, I am always scared of getting bad feedback, haters and negative criticism. Luckily, I haven't had to experience any of this (yet) apart from one time where I was personally attacked by an ex-colleague of mine for not being such a great workmate while we were working together. I would say my worst experience would be my nerved when it comes to location shooting. I don't have the confidence to "strut my stuff" in public and with people watching. I am working on gaining more confidence and hopefully you'll start to see more outfit posts with a busy city background instead of deserted car parks and business parks.

9.What are the best advices, tips for fashion lovers?

-I don't know if I would constitute myself as being a fashion and style blogger who is worthy of giving advice yet since I'm still a "newbie" but I would suggest:

1. Stick to a style you are comfortable with

2. Don't always jump on the trend bandwagon

3. Try to incorporate yourself when choosing your outfit. For myself, this means always wearing my promise and engagement rings, my crucifix and my bracelet of 11 years regardless of if it would suit my outfit or not. The symbolism of these 4 items will always prosper over what it looks like.

4. Ask yourself the following questions:

1. What would I think in 5 years time when I see a photo of this outfit?

2. What would my parents, child/children think when they see a photo of this outfit?

5. Learn to shop your closet
6. Invest in items of clothing and colours that will not date

10. Lastly, for bloggers and those who are thinking of starting a blog?

-I say go for it! I have always wanted to have a blog regardless of what I would be blogging about. My blog initially started off as a personal blog where I would post my nail art, what I did that weekend and random things that went on in my life and never expected my blog to be more fashion related. I never knew I had a hidden passion for fashion as I used to be a jeans and tshirt girl but evolved as I got older. I had always admired people who were able to have a personal blog/online journal and were able to keep it consistently updated and wanted something I can look back on as an archive. It's so easy to start a blog now with Blogger, Wordpress and Tumblr. I think everyone should have one!

Hi there!

Let me introduce myself. Im Analesha, 23 years old, live in New Zealand and have an obsession with all things beauty. Growing up the only make up I used was eyeliner as I was overwhelmed with all the products there was out there and the pressure to get it right! Then I became an international flight attendant and it all changed. I was introduced to ‘grooming guidelines’ and regular checks to make sure I had the minimum requirements on each day. So things had to change….fast. I discovered lipsticks that shimmered and glittered, mascara that actually made my eyelashes visible and blush which gave the illusion of a slim face!

From then on in my love for makeup grew, and grew, and grew. My wallet got smaller but my confidence got stronger and my makeup collection got significantly bigger! I decided that I wanted to share my love of these products with likeminded people. I also enjoyed reading blogs so I made the decision to become a beauty blogger and created lipsandbubbles.blogspot.com.

I’ve definitely had good and bad memories with makeup. Struggling with the dreaded ‘orange’ look after applying the wrong foundation to the temperature being so hot your makeup drips of your face. I once walked around all day with the wrong coloured foundation on and it wasn’t until the evening that someone said to me ‘what have you done to your face!’ I wished that the ground could open up and swallow me at that point. I love the feeling of adding a little bit of shimmer to your face weather it’s by blush or bronzer. That makes me feel feminine, powerful and most of all pretty.

1. How did you come up with the name of your blog?

I was thinking of something simple to keep in mind easily and which would fit my niche best: Fashion with a touch of luxury & design. I love to share style picks with others who are passionate about mixing high fashion with low prices.

2. How would you describe your personal style?

Basically it depends on my mood, which is good because I like to change. Plus I love mixing colors, shapes and prints to create looks that are chic yet edgy. Overall I try to give all my looks a personal touch.

3. What were you doing before you got into blogging?

Well before starting my fashion blog I had a blog in 2003 for a few years, blogging about web design and everything which came up to my mind.

4. Tell us a bit of your personal fashion story.

I used to own a pair of those big plateau shoes in the 90ies :-) I wanted this pair because almost everybody wore them in that time - nowadays plateau shoes are in trend again.

5. Tell us about your Fashionaire of the week.

The Fashionaires Of The Week came up in a night I was thinking about involving other people, so I wanted to showcase some of my lovely twitter followers, who are also fashion bloggers. Now every fashion blogger is more than welcome to participate by uploading their favorite look here and get the chance to be featured on my blog!

6. We saw that you started your blog just in August 2013, it's only been less than a year, how did you gain a lot of followers?

I tried to network a lot in the past months. It's all about supporting each other - I'm so thankful for meeting new friends from all over the world through blogging.

7. Aside from blogging, what do you usually do during your free time?

In my free time I like meeting friends, reading other people's blogs and since I'm new to photography I play with my camera as much as I can to improve my skills.

8. What is your advice to young fashion bloggers wanting to gain supporters?

Visiting other people's blogs can help a lot to get supporters for yourself. Show your support first and then you'll get support from others, too :-)

9. Lastly, how would you spend $15,000 if you found it in a treasure box in your basement? :)

First, I would spend partly of this amount to get me a new and bigger closet. And the rest of the money would be shared with people who are in need.

A JOURNEY INTO THE FASHION UNKNOWN...

Can you remember your earliest fashion memory? Is it an image of your mother trying on a little black dress for an important party or perhaps walking past the Chanel beauty counter in Selfridges on a busy Saturday afternoon? Well, considering I am a blogger (and a huge lover of fashion) it would surprise you to know that I actually don’t have a specific fashion memory. Not a single one. Here is my fashion story, by me…Hannah Last.

I was always a well dressed little girl, (my mum made sure of that!) and I took great pleasure in choosing my clothes and shopping for my younger sisters who still have no sense of style! It wasn’t until the age of 13 that I discovered my passion for art and design, in particularly – womenswear. I would sketch out designs in tiny paper books, buried deep under my bed so no prying eyes could see them, and began scouring over images in magazines of the supermodels of the 90’s and their great beauty and eccentric sense of style. Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss… I was intrigued by this world of high end fashion and the power of the catwalk and celebrity culture, sparking me to start designing with specific women in mind. One day I might design a cute cocktail dress intended for Victoria Beckham, the next a stunning red carpet gown for Angelina Jolie. To better myself I began buying design books, designer autobiographies, fashion magazines such as Elle and Vogue and most importantly began to understand the chaotic yet exhilarating rotation of the biannual fashion weeks in New York , London , Milan and
Paris .

I knew I wanted to become a fashion designer. Well, that was until I enrolled on a Fashion Design course at world renowned Central Saint Martins, after begging my parents to pay the rather large course fund. Let me tell you, I went in there like the cat who had got the cream – confident, excited, rather too full of myself, and finished the course quite the opposite – very humbled and lost. Lost in my future. You see, the course was amazing, I learnt so much about myself, but there were many people there who were better than me and what’s more, they wanted their dream more. Maybe I wasn’t supposed to become a designer. Perhaps I just wasn’t the next Alexander McQueen.

That was when I was 16 years old. 2 years on from that ‘career changing’ fashion experience I have grown more and more in love with this billion dollar industry and tried my hand at visual merchandising, styling, editing, fashion illustration and my true passion which I hope to pursue an everlasting career in… Fashion Journalism. Yes, quite different to the creative world of design, yet I found it was something new, something I was quite good at and most importantly, something I genuinely loved! The world of journalism and blogging I feel is just beginning, with more and more people creating blogs and starting online business that require the written word to be eloquently presented. From styling tips, catwalk trends, latest fashion news and red carpet style, I started writing about everything and here I am NOW! Enjoying my life as an aspiring journalist and hard working fashion lover, ready for anything.

So there you have it, my fashion story. If anything I want my short story to inspire. Life is full of so many twists and turns that it’s impossible to predict where your life will take you, I mean, my 13 year old self would be shocked to see how different my fashion path is now compared to my past dreams. But that’s life, and that’s fashion. We all have to begin somewhere….
